Digital Rights Management (DRM):

  • DRM, described simply, restricts the number and type of devices an eBook can be read on. This is intended to prevent unauthorized copying/piracy of eBooks. But existing DRM solutions from various providers are not compatible and DRMed books can get very messy for even genuine buyers to read. At Kalamse.in, eBooks are not DRM Protected. Instead, we are experimenting with the concept of Social DRM.
Social DRM:
  • Involves stamping some personal information of the buyer on the electronic files Presence of personal information is expected to reduce the tendency to pirate the files In extreme cases, something sensitive like Credit Card Information can be stamped In Kalamse.in social DRM system, we stamp e-mail id of the buyer on the PDF file Currently an experimental feature EPUB files do not have any stamping.
  • “Buyers” who pay the price set by the author/publisher to purchase an e-book are allowed to use each copy of the e-book in any reasonable non-commercial manner in compliance with copyright law and our terms and conditions. “Buyers” acknowledge that the e-books purchased through the website are for their personal use and can not be sub-licensed or resold. On purchasing the e-book, they get a non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-distributable right of use. In other words, you are free to use it personally but are not authorized to share, sell, or distribute the work to others.
  • Once your purchase the e-book, Kalamse.in has the obligation to allow you one download of the associated files. Typically we will provide multiple downloads facility, but we are not obligated to do so. The downloadable books will have the buyer’s e-mail id stamped on them. Buyers are not allowed to tamper with this stamping.
  • Products ordered through the website for delivery within India are shipped through our courier partner if the delivery service to the destination is available. In absence of a courier service to the desired location, the products are shipped through the Indian Postal Service.
Shipping to locations outside India is done through Indian Postal Service:
  • International Book Post shipping requires us to ship books in open envelop and is not registered. Therefore, we will not be in a position to provide a tracking number.
  • The shipping time mentioned anywhere on the website are approximate and we can not guarantee them. Customers are recommended to place an order early on if they have a deadline to meet.
  • Apart from the shipping time, print-on-demand books also need time for production, which varies from 3 days to 2 weeks depending on the production requirement and quantity ordered.
